RECREATION

Social interaction through recreation breaks down unfamiliarity, fear and isolation, factors associated with racism; and promotes positive contact between different ethnic groups and broader communities. The strength of a community is increased through recreation activities that allow people to share cultural and ethnic differences.

In South Africa, sports and recreation is one of the most highly esteemed spheres of government. People that have benefited through this are countless. The Limpopo province alone boasts such prestigious athletes such as Caster Semenya, Anton van Zyl and Mbulaeni Mulaudzi to mention a few.  The types of recreation, leisure and sports activities people participate in vary greatly depending on local context and tend to reflect the social systems and cultural values.

LWUA understands the importance of community cohesion and will continue to support communities with activities as identified by them.
